About the Registry

Overview

Government relies on input from Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to develop policies and programs that serve the best interests of the province. Listening to stakeholders allows government to capture not only the views of those most affected, but also a broad range of relevant knowledge and expertise.

The public is contributing more and more to public policy development. In turn, government is ensuring public access to the decision-making process through strong transparency mechanisms and consultation, ensuring openness and accountability in the decision-making process.

Free and open access to government is an important right of citizenship and must not be impeded. However, government decision-makers and the public should have information on who is attempting to influence public policy decisions. Therefore, government has introduced a Lobbyist Registration Act and a Code of Conduct that defines appropriate lobbying practices, and has established a public Registry of paid lobbyists.

Principles of the Act

The Lobbyist Registration Act recognizes that:

  • free and open access to government is in the public interest;
  • lobbying public office holders is a legitimate activity, when conducted appropriately;
  • public office holders and the public should be able to know who is attempting to influence government decisions; and
  • registration of paid lobbyists should not impede access to government.

Legislation and Regulations

The Registry of Lobbyists is governed by the Lobbyist Registration Act.

Hours of operation for the Registry of Lobbyists are as follows:

Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Except Summer Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
